Uncle Wiggly

In honor of Easter, I am dedicating this blog to rabbits all across the globe. Even though rabbits really don't have have anything to do with the actual Easter holiday, somehow, they have hippity hopped into our lunisolar calendar, after a 40 day of fasting, following the Greek goddess from pre-Christian Germanic terms, Ostara, who somehow got changed to Hausos, representing hares and eggs.

And if that didn't bore you to tears, meet an old rabbit fav of mine, Uncle Wiggly, (in the green shorts).

Uncle Wiggly, from another folk lore fame, is a fuzzy creature with an endearing smile and a tenacious, over abundance of energy! He hung with the other rabbits for awhile and then he was off, off, off, scampering house to house, laying down the eggs. (Don't ask me how eggs and rabbits became associated).

And after a full day of  springing, leaping, bouncing, Uncle Wiggly relaxes...

                                                              At the Disco-tech!
Here he is on the floor preparing his now you see me, now you don't Easter tactics dance jive.

And later, he got down and boogied with the local chicks.

A few of his fellow rabbits took a break from the bandstand, allowing Uncle Wiggly to sit in.

First he bounced around on the keyboard playing the "Here Comes Peter Cottontail Boogie."

Then, after much prodding and coercion, he jumped onto the drums playing a most awesome rendition of Eddie Rabbit's, "I Love A Rainy Night."

I had to drag him home after that, his little rabbit feet were red and swollen. He had put in quite a full Easter day...and night. And as I tucked him into his faux-grass-covered-in-jellybeans, bed, I heard him murmur,
".....the fifth little rabbit went creep, creep, creep..."

So I whispered in his long ears, 'Now it's time to go to sleep."

Happy Easter.

Bigger Nancy

  We met the small

and Little,

                                                             and now..... the BIG!

Let's call her college age Nancy...or better known to her friends as

                                                          "Velma"!
Velma was in West Side Story and her most famous line was "Ooh ooh oobly ooh!"
She is most definitely, caught in the 50's....

She loves the movies.

At last the concessions.....
college cravings...ya know.....

And then...there are the fast cars!!!!

How about wild summer nights at the Tiki bar??????

Tons of greasy pizza....

And necking under the giant flamingo at Look Out For Lovers Point.

Yes, Little Nancy's all grown up. She's packed on a few hormonal pounds and made some decisions that
she might be ashamed for, in the end, but as I asked her if she had anything to declare.. ya know...for posterity....
and she spat out, in West Side Story style.....

                                                                      "Poo!"

And you can punctuate that one!

Spring Snow

There were two happy campers at my house this morn, as I opened up the door to find fresh fallen SPRING snow....Nanook of the North ( see blog 2/16 and 2/22),

and Snowball, the blind skiing poodle-thingy (2/3/11).

As I put the FLANNEL sheets BACK on the bed, I could hardly contain their enthusiasm.

Snowball couldn't wait to hang ten on the sheets.....(he still hasn't discovered snow).
And Nanook has the audacity to assume we are heading into another long winter's nap.  I gave them both my seal of....

Disapproval!

And yet later, after the snow melted, and I was in a more jovial mood,  Nannook asked if we had left the snow shovel out for Friday and Saturday's forecast and I gave her my most sincere answer.

Thumb beats another finger to the punch!

Little Nancy

Little Nancy used to be littl-er....

She was made by my name's sake, Aunt Nancy. She sits with the family in a portrait frozen in time. A younger, simpler time....

Then, Auntie created Little Nancy.

I can't tell you the joy I felt at having my very own doll made in my image. This was during the Barbie years, but it was before 9-0-2-1-0 dolls, and PeeWee Herman dolls, and Miley Syrus dolls. Nancy was handmade by my Aunt in my likeness, out of felt, stuffing and beads with dimples.

As you can see, Little Nancy is currently very busy potting plants for spring.

She has brought the impatience plant back to life after nursing it all winter.

She has planted a 100 teensy seeds, nursing, nursing, hovering, and waiting, waiting for the bitsy sprig of green to push through an inch of earth.

Little Nancy has honed her tools, and cleaned her pots in preparation.

She's plotted her plots, thinking daily about garden whereabouts. Which bed and what bed, perennials, or seasonals. Water displays and rich black earth, squeezed between wandering fingers ......
only to discover....
the forecast
 for

 the

        week......

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Yet, she's still smiling!)

Marylin's Red Doll

One of the more creative dolls we have is Marylin's Red Doll. She was probably an experiment in abstract doll making, what with snap eyes, various patches, feathers, and snappy dancing feet. Abstract could be her middle name, as I delved deeper into what makes Red Doll, I received a lesson in eclecticism.

She spoke in beatnik pros, and I listened in rapture to absorb her eccentricity:

"I love hot sauce, ketchup and red raspberry jam...

red tassels, and satin make me who i am.

Red sky, cherry pie....

red lampshade and

                                       tie....

 Plaid is so sad, but

red wine makes me high.

Computer, pliers, paint....

red stools, no complaint.

Red skins..
red glass...

red jelly beans give me gas...

And who doesn't love a red fuzzy hat?

But the most precious red is behind my back.
You think you might know me, you think you are smart.
but Marylin gave me a secret

HEART!"

Stealth Monkey Meets His Match!

Remember, stealth monkey, who showed up in the least expected places?
He is once again on a mission.

His mission is....dat--da--da--dat---dee duh (Mission Impossible theme),
FIND SPRING!!!!

While out in the woods searching high and low for Mother Nature,

he found....

Jogg, the Swiss mountain climber.

They combined their talents to find signs of spring.....

Any sprouts growing in the old stump? No? Gotta move on .....

Jogg says, "Roger, Roger, the ice is out...water is flowing."

Stealth monkey found a mossy hole to hide in. Green is our target color!!!
Jogg, drops his line to smell earth's musky redolence.

Hiding out in another hollow log reveals....schrooms......generation baby boomer, X and Z expect nature abundance here!

Aha! The pontoon buoy released from a snowy captivity. Soon, we move it out onto the water.

Mission Accomplished: Spring is on it's way.
