Parineeta

Madame Mahavira and her friend Suri, from India, teamed up to view an Indian film at the college~Paraneeta (A Married Woman). They put on their bindis and jewels, and waited for the car to pull up.

When they arrived, people were bustling around visiting with one another. The only people who were of Indian descent were Mahavira, Suri and two hosts, teachers at the college.

American and Indian snacks were served, popcorn, Indian cookies and Sandas, a spicy potato dumpling.

I snapped their photo right before the film began, and then lights went out.

Both women were dewy eyed over the two male leads in the film, Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Kahn. They were considered to be quite hunky in their native land!

Parineeta began, the crowd hushed and the girls enjoyed their evening at the movies!

As I drove them home, I could hear them in the back seat bubbling in their beautiful native language, a soft, lilting melody. Titters, clucks and sighs~they loved the film!
